A Rich, Spicy Mutton Masala For Your Weekend Lunch

We aren’t big supporters of rich gravies and spicy meat, but Summer is almost gone and we can feel the temperatures going lower. So, it isn’t really a bad thing to crave some Mutton Masala on a day like this. A big lunch of this and paratha, and a siesta for a good day.

Serves: 3

Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins

Elements:

2 tablespoons ghee

3 – 4 bay leaves

3 – 4 cloves

1 black cardamom pod

1-inch cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon cumin

½ teaspoon salt

2 onions, chopped

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

250 grams mutton

1 tablespoon water

1 tablespoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

¼ teaspoon garam masala

¼ teaspoon chilli powder

½ teaspoon mutton masala

2 tomatoes, chopped

1 spring onion, finely chopped for garnish

Formula:

Heat the ghee in a saucepan, add the bay leaves, cloves, black cardamom, cinnamon and cumin. Add the salt and the onions and cook for two minutes. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another five minutes.

Now add in the mutton. Dissolve the coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, chilli powder and mutton masala in a tablespoon of water and pour over the mutton. Cook for about 10 minutes before adding the tomatoes. Cook further for about five minutes.

Transfer to a serving plate, sprinkle with some chopped spring onion and serve!
